  • Did you know that the name “Pustevny” comes from hermits and their hermitages from the 18th and 19th centuries?
  • Emperor Joseph II abolished the hermitages.
  • In 1884, the first Czech tourist association, “Pohorská jednota Radhošť,” was founded.
  • Honorary members included architect Dušan Jurkovič, President Masaryk, and sculptor Polášek.
  • The first building — the Krčma shelter — was completed in 1891.
  • The second building — the Šumná shelter — was completed in 1894.
  • The third building — the Cyrilka lookout tower — was completed in 1894.
  • In 1894, the original marshland was transformed into a small lake, known as the “Sea Eye.” Do you know why it was made? Because all great mountains must have their lakes 🙂
  • Pustevny is home to the Cyrilka Cave, the second-longest pseudokarst cave in the Czech Republic, measuring 552 meters.
  • In 1899, the Libušín and Maměnka buildings were constructed, featuring decorations typical of the Wallachian region.
  • They were designed by Slovak architect Dušan Samo Jurkovič, and the construction cost 82,433 Austrian crowns.
  • Painter Mikoláš Aleš created drawings of the god Radegast, St. Wenceslas, and the Wallachian guard Stavinoha.
  • In 1926, the Tanečnica hotel was opened, costing 3.7 million Czech crowns to build.
