Stezka Valaška Beskydy Pustevny

Moravian-Silesian Beskydy

  • They are part of the Carpathian mountain range – the Carpathian Arc
  • They extend through Romania, Ukraine, Slovakia, Poland, and Moravia
  • Did you know that the arc is 1500 km long and, in total area, surpasses even the Alps?
  • The highest peak of the Moravian part of the Beskydy is Lysá Hora (1323 m)
  • It is one of the rainiest places in the Czech Republic (annual average of 1459 mm/year)
  • The most snow recorded on Lysá Hora was during the winter of 1910/1911 — a whopping 491 cm
  • There are 32 peaks over 1000 meters here — 27 main peaks and 5 side peaks
  • The Beskydy Mountains have a total of 6 reservoirs
  • Did you know that Beskydy has the Mionší primeval forest, where trees are up to 400 years old, and it’s one of the largest forests in the Czech Republic (170 ha)?
  • It actually came into existence by accident when, in 1895, Archduke Bedřich banned logging on Mionší Hill because he was an avid hunter and wanted the wildlife to have peace for mating
  • A true gem of the Beskydy is the Satinské Waterfalls on the Satina River, featuring 1–3 meter waterfalls, numerous rapids, cascades, and interesting rock formations called “giant pots”
  • In the Beskydy, besides deer, roe deer, martens, foxes, badgers, otters, the common buzzard, the Eurasian eagle-owl, and the western capercaillie, you can also find bears, lynxes, and wolves
  • The Beskydy is the only mountain range in the Czech Republic where these three large predators live
  • This area is the largest protected landscape area in the Czech Republic (CHKO Beskydy) — 1160 km²
